A freshwater swamp spanning over approximately 10ha, the Air Hitam Dalam Educational Forest is located to the north of Province Wellesley (Seberang Perai Utara). Its name ‘Air Hitam Dalam’ refers to a river nearby that is deep and dark. Housing an ecosystem that has many plants and animals, especially birds, there are two observation towers here that are linked by a 210m suspension bridge. Birding is possible here, where the sites for birding are canopied and connected by a 1,163m boardwalk.

Buffered by the rivers in this manner, the teeming natural haven is surrounded on its other sides by fertile paddy fields, picturesque kampung houses and breezy coconut plantations.
And criss-crossing the interior of this heartland is a kilometre-long network of boardwalks and a 210-metre suspension footbridge erected with ropes and planks. So one can explore the forest at a variegated pace - be it with a dash of adventure or just as an idyllic jaunt. The authorities need to ensure that the splendid environment is well complemented by properly-managed facilities and amenities for safety and pleasant accessibility.

Exit the North South Expressway at the Sungai Dua Interchange (Exit 165) and head in the direction of Sungai Dua. When you see a mosque (Masjid Al Amin) on your left, take the left turning in the direction of Kepala Batas. Go along this road (State Route P205) until you reach the pekan of Nyior Sebatang. You will notice a signboard for Rekreasi Ayer Hitam Dalam. There is a junction here where you turn right. (See street view below). Go along this road for 880 meters, and you will see the entrance to Air Hitam Dalam Educational Forest to your right.
